As you read these, consider:  what might it mean for a group of students and teachers to see literacy in these ways?  How else might it be understood?  What ideologies live below these statements? Do they cohabit comfortably?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Literacy is a noun. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Literacy is a skill.&lt;br /&gt;Literacy is a tool. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Literacy is power.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Literacy is listening.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p  class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Literacy is comprehending.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Literacy is key to communication.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
